campsiteSteve and I and little Izzi just returned from a great week of camping (with our newly decorated trailer 🙂 along the Southern Oregon Coast.  We stayed at Humbug Mountain State Park, a little south of Port Orford.  We had driven through this area years ago, but had never stayed long enough to explore the area.  It is a beautiful rugged, rocky area of the Oregon coast and our weather every day was absolutely perfect, and there was no mist or fog in the mornings that is usually normal for the coast.T22234641ship closeup

3839T5We drove south to Gold Beach and Brookings, and had the BEST clam chowder we’ve ever had at a restaurant on the dock in Brookings.  One of the women who worked at the restaurant told us about an area of the Redwoods called Stout Grove and said it was only 1/2 hour from Brookings, so we went there after lunch and loved it.  It is a small park area of the Redwoods with a 1/2 mile loop through the woods.  The trees were so amazingly huge and the trail through the forest was just so peaceful.  We also toured the Cape Blanco lighthouse and the historic Hughes house.C118283

We found a great beach six miles south of our campground that had easy access.  Most of the beaches in the area had no access because of the cliffs and rugged terrain, so we were glad we found this beach.  Every time we went there, we were the only ones there, so Izzi had the whole beach to do her turbo-ing and exploring.8988T13103

This was such a special trip for us, not only because of the beautiful area and weather, but also because we weren’t able to do any traveling or camping last year due to some health issues with Steve, so this trip was even more meaningful to us now that he is doing so much better.
