My sister Carol’s birthday was a few weeks ago and I thought of the best present for her. I have a collection of old images from our grandparents and chose an image of an envelope that our grandfather sent to our grandmother while he was in Nicaragua in 1957. I used the Citra Solv transfer method to put the image onto some cream colored fabric and sewed some of our mother’s buttons onto a corner of the image and then sewed it into a small pillow. I loved it so much, and she did too 🙂 so I made another one for myself.
Another project I did recently is recovering the top portion of a foot stool we have in our living room. Last Christmas when my husband was checking out the tree lights, he laid them over the foot stool as he was lighting them to see about replacing bulbs that had burned out. Unfortunately, the lights actually created a small divit in the fabric from the heat of the lights, very small but noticeable, and these were the COOL lights too – strange. So I found some beautiful home dec fabric with a design that would go with the material of the rest of the foot stool and also go with the colors in the room. I cut a piece about 2″ bigger than the overall size of the top of the stool and then blind stitched it by hand to the stool going just to the cording. I am SO pleased with the result. This is the stool our little dog Izzi loves to lay on and actually this new fabric doesn’t show her hair as much, so it was a good change all around.
Our current project is a bench for the backyard that we are making out of a beautiful vintage style headboard and footboard which will be coming in a post very soon.
